Energy chains made of conductive ESD material are used to avoid static charge in manufacturing processes for electronic components or assemblies. Measurements of the electrical surface leakage resistance for igus energy chains with the special material igumid GC, were made back in 1992 by igus GmbH together with the PTB (Physikalisch-Technische-Bundesanstalt) in Braunschweig, supplemented by additional certifications in 1998 and 1999 according to DIN 53482, and the guidelines for static electricity ZH1/200 of the Federation of Trade Associations.
With the new iglidur I8-ESD laser sintering powder, electrostatically conductive components with increased rigidity and abrasion resistance can now be manufactured. Parts printed in 3D made of ESD material are ideally suited for, e.g. special mounting brackets or further accessories for energy chains, if only small batch sizes are required.
To discharge potentially occurring electrostatic energy, igus recommends the igumid ESD material for the production of sensitive electrical components and for applications in hazardous environments (ATEX).
igumid ESD surpasses even the standard material regarding some mechanical requirements igumid G and has been tested in over 10 million cycles in the igus technical centre.
